Because 15 months ago I was arrested for assault with bodily injury against a family member after my (now) ex-huband and I got into a verbal argument, and he placed his hands around my throat. In self defense I hit him multiple times, causing him to bleed. Because he was bleeding and I was not (despite the bruising on my throat) I was arrested and spent the night in jail. MY lawyer has managed to convince the Prosecutor to dismiss my charges on grounds of self defense provided I prove my divorce is final and I have completed 16 hours of anger management.
